Problem with our License

Hi Cback,

We've got a problem with our website. The part of the license that is showing in the admin interface is wrong. It is giving us an license error in the admin panel.

It does not match the license that is showing in the clientmgr. Is it possible to change the forum license to the license from the clientmgr?

We are still at version 3.7.0. To update, just download package 3.9.0?

Kind Regards,

itzmie

Hi itzmie,

generally as long the Domain of your forum is correctly set in the client panel it doesn't matter if your forum ACP doesn't show up the license. Some servers with fsockopen or curl deactivated even don't have the possibility to contact other servers for informations so its just important, that your license data in the client panel here is correct.

But if you have a wrong License Code in your forum you still can try to correct it with this tool:
http://setup.cback.net/license_update.zip

- download the zip and extract it
- upload the file "license.php" in the root folder of your forum (where index.php and ajax.php is also located)
- open the file by entering the URL to that file in your browser (http://yourforum.com/license.php)
- paste the SETUP License Key (the long one) from your client panel in the input field and apply it
- delete the file "license.php" again from your server

The new / current License code will be placed into your local forum. If your server is able to contact our server you will see the correct infos of your license in your forum then. But as I said if this is still not the case it's absolutely no problem as long you see everything correct in the CBACK Client Panel directly. The Licenses are only checked on our side.

To Update the forum just download the Updatepackage (Very important: Updatepackage! Not the complete one) from the client panel. Extract the ZIP and upload the files via ftp to your forum. Use the "MERGE" Option for the Folders and the "OVERRIDE FILE" option for single files so every new file from the update package will be uploaded correctly to your forum.

After Upload run the "update.php" by entering the URL to that file in your browser (http://yourforum.com/update.php). The Database will be automatically updated from 3.7.0 to 3.9.0. Delete the update.php after executing it and you will be on the newest Version.

Additional note: If you use another style than "Liquid" or other Languages than english or german you have to update your own styles and langs manually with our codechanges here:
index.php?f=201
You have to do every codechange seperately from 3.7.0 to 3.9.0.

If you are just using "liquid" and no other language than en and de the updatepack will automatically update your langs and styles and you're done after executing the update.php.

Sincerely,
Chris

Hi itzmie,

the tool itself is used since the first CF3 Version and is provided with every CF3 License Renewal, so I think there is a problem with your forum software especially. Please ensure, that you pasted the long setup code without any other chars from the client panel. If there is still a blank page it seems that your forum has a problem with some files. Try to do the update first (create a backup for security reasons) and/or deactivate the plugin-system temporarily. (You can do so in the General Config so you don't have to uninstall the plugins and so you don't loose any Plugin Data). Maybe there's a Plugin that causes problems with your forum.

Please also make sure, that all file permissions, especially for the folders and contents in the folder uploads/ (and all subdirectories) are correctly set and the Forum is able to write the cache and transfer folders in there and the files that are currently in this folder.

Sincerely and have a nice weekend,
Chris

Hi Chris,

After resetting the file permissions the change license script worked! Thanks. :)
I also did the update from 3.7 to 3.9. No problems occurred.

A another question: I need to login two times. The first time the page refreshes but it's not logging in.
Any ideas about that?

Kind Regards,

Itzmie

Hi Itzmie,

glad to hear it works again now! :)

The duplicate Login seems to be a configuration error in your Domain/Forum Config (found in General Config) or Cookie config. It is important, that the Domain and Script Path is set to the exact location where your site runs at. And its also recommended, that you set your Domains in a way that your board is just accessible with one preferred domain name. This even optimizes your site for the search engines because duplicate content gets prevented.

To make it more clear I give you an example from the configuration of the CBACK Community:

This site is configured that you only can reach it with the Domain community.cback.net
If you try to access the site without the "www." or from another domain Alias you will be automatically redirected to the www. version.

So if you enter http://forum.cback.de you will land on the community-domain
and if you just enter https://community.cback.de (without www.) you will be redirected to the www. domain automatically.

The configuration of the forum here is set to "community.cback.net" then so all board redirections are always done within the correct domain.

The Session Cookie always looks to an exact domain name so I think you access the site from another domain name, you try to login, the board redirects you to the domain you entered in the general configuration and of course you have to login again there because the previous login was written to the other domain name you're not on anymore.

Sincerely,
Chris

Hi itzmie,

I think if you go to your board you just enter "domain.nl" (without www.) but you don't get redirected to the www. version automatically. You can do this with a redirection rule in your .htaccess file or with a configuration in your Hoster Domain Panel (for example Plesk).

If you go to your site just with http://domain.nl and you log in the board will set the cookie for "domain.nl" but redirect you to the configured path WITH www (http://www.domain.nl). But the cookie that was set is not detected there because "www." is - if you see it strictly - a subdomain of "domain.nl" and so for the browser another site.

If you add a redirect rule that domain.nl directly redirects you to www.domain.nl you will not get that problem again. :) Your board config itself is correct then.

Sincerely,
Chris
